The Kurula Varkey Design Forum (KVDF) 2024 took place at the CEPT campus from 2 to 4 Aug. Organised by the undergraduate students of the Faculty of Architecture (FA), the forum has been a platform for critical discourse in architecture and design since its inception in 2001.
For its 23rd chapter, the forum explored the theme - ‘technology and innovation as an enabler of architectural space’. 27 students including our very own Nilrandha Fonseka, from across South Asia participated in the forum, with their final year thesis projects acting as starting points of the discussions. Architects and academicians were invited to take part in reviews, presentations and discussions as panellists.
The forum started with an exhibition that showcased the selected student projects and the works of the invited panellists, followed by a memorial lecture on Prof. Varkey and a note on the theme. The next two days were interspersed with panel discussions, panellists’ presentations, and workshops, that led to larger conversations on architecture.
